Michael Arbenz Solo – Classical, Creative, and Organic
Jazz – Many jazz pianists have attempted to blend classical music with jazz, but few do so as effortlessly as Michael Arbenz. In his project Classicism: A Point of View, he reimagines classical compositions and enhances them with bold jazz improvisations. In doing so, he maintains the integrity of the original works while expanding their harmonic and rhythmic possibilities.
His performances are marked by expressive phrasing, virtuosic technique, and a seamless blend of classical rubato with a precise jazz pulse. Based in Switzerland, Arbenz is one of the country’s most renowned jazz pianists, teaching at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts. He has toured extensively across Europe, North and South America, and Asia, collaborating with legendary musicians such as Greg Osby, Dave Liebman, and Marc Johnson. In his solo projects, Arbenz elevates his mastery of both classical and jazz to new heights, offering audiences a deeply satisfying and innovative musical experience.

Jazz / Indie - Can you rock on the piano? This question preoccupied Basel-based pianist Lucca Fries for a long time before he brought his own rock band, Fri3ser, to life. Over the past ten years, Fries gained inspiring experiences with his internationally acclaimed bands Hely and Ikarus, as well as in the ensemble of American post-minimalist composer Virgil Moorefield. During this time, he continued to develop his musical language and worked on the idea of how to integrate his passion for heavy, primal rock beats into the context of a jazz trio.
With Thun-based electric bassist Sarah Zaugg (Sha's Feckel, Hathors) and Zurich drummer Luca Ramella (Mister Milano, Big Zis), Fries found two musicians who share his love for powerful expression while also bringing the sensitivity needed for long, improvised passages. Fri3ser's compositions are influenced by alternative rock and minimal music, characterized by warm, percussive piano tones, and allow ample space for extended musical exploration.

The Rank association
The cultural program is orchestrated by the Rank Association. The non-profit association is both organizationally and financially independent of the gastronomy, with the specific aim of promoting the local music scene.
The association is financed through concert admissions, a cultural percentage of the gastronomic offerings, membership fees, as well as private and public subsidies.
A fair fee is paid to the performing artists.
For Artists
The bands are actively sought out and invited by a committee. Applications are highly encouraged through direct conversation after attending a concert at Rank. Unfortunately, electronic applications cannot be considered due to time constraints.
